AN UPDATED FLORISTIC CHECKLIST OF SARISKA TIGER RESERVE, ALWAR, RAJASTHAN: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

This review presents a comprehensive and updated floristic checklist of the Sariska Tiger Reserve (STR) in Rajasthan. Compiled through an extensive analysis of published literature and authenticated secondary data, the study consolidates fragmented records and standardizes plant nomenclature according to the APG IV (Angiosperm Phylogeny Group) system. A total of 474 species belonging to 315 genera and 85 families are documented. Angiosperms dominate the flora, contributing 469 species (98.94%), whereas pteridophytes and gymnosperms are represented by only 4 species (0.84%) and 1 species (0.21%), respectively. Among angiosperms, dicotyledons constitute the major component with 362 species (76.37%) and 244 genera, followed by monocotyledons comprising 107 species (22.57%) and 67 genera. Among the recorded taxa, Poaceae is the most dominant family with 64 species and 42 genera, followed by Fabaceae (57 species; 34 genera) and Asteraceae (30 species; 26 genera). Other significant families include Malvaceae (29 species; 15 genera), Cyperaceae (23 species; 8 genera), Acanthaceae and Amaranthaceae (20 species each; 11 genera each), Euphorbiaceae and Lamiaceae (14 species each), and Cucurbitaceae (13 species. This updated checklist will provide a reliable baseline for future floristic, ecological, and conservation research and serves as a valuable reference for researchers, policymakers, and biodiversity managers.

SEED POLYMORPHISM IN CASSIA TORA L.: MORPHOLOGICAL VARIATION AND ITS ECOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Cassia tora L., a common herbaceous legume found in tropical and subtropical regions, exhibits notable seed polymorphism. This study investigates the morphological diversity of seeds in Cassia tora, categorizing them into three distinct morphological types. Morphometric parameters such as length, width, shape, color, surface texture, weight, dormancy, viability, and germination were analyzed. The results show significant variation among categories, which may contribute to ecological fitness, dispersal strategies, and adaptability. Understanding seed polymorphism is essential for assessing the ecological success and invasiveness of this species, particularly in biodiverse regions like the Sariska Tiger Reserve.
