IDENTIFICATION AND ETHNO MEDICINAL DOCUMENTATION OF FLORA OF ANDHRA UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, ANDHRA PRADESH, VISAKHAPATNAM

A Floristic survey for documentation of medicinal plants was conducted based on the participatory observations and field visit across Andhra University Campus, Visakhapatnam city during January, 2023 to April, 2023 with the aim of collecting and identifying medicinal flora and documentation of medicinal properties of plants occurring in this campus.The total area of the Andhra University is 200 hectares out of which a huge land is free from any kind of constriction of buildings that provide habit for many wild medicinal plant species. This study resulted in record of 101 medicinal plant species pertains to 90 genera under 48 families. The dominant family Fabaceae was represented by maximum number of 6 genera and 7 species followed by Malvaceae. All the plants have been described with their scientific names, family, medicinal value, habit, and habitat and voucher number. All the dried specimens were deposited to the herbarium collection of ICFRE-Coastal Ecosystem Centre (ICFRE-CEC), Visakhapatnam in the form of complete herbarium sheets for future reference. The data presented will be a valuable source of information for management of medicinal plant resources in the Andhra University campus.

ETHNOMEDICINAL IMPORTANCE OF THE FABACEAE FAMILY AMONG THE RURAL PEOPLES OF ALWAR DISTRICT, RAJASTHAN

The research work was initiated to get information and report on the medicinal plants belonging to the family Fabaceae among the rural peoples of the Alwar district. The field survey of the study area was conducted between Jan. 2021 to Dec. 2023. Out of 15 plant species, 09 are trees, 05 are herbs and 01 is a climber. The most used plant part as medicine was noted to be the leaves (23.08%), followed by root (19.23%), bark, seed and fruit (each 11.54%).In this paper, a list of plant species along with their local name, plant part/s used and medicinal uses for effective control of diverse ailments of ethnomedicinal plants are given.

STUDIES ON SEED MORPHOLOGY AND GERMINATION OF BUTEA MONOSPERMA (LAM.) TAUB.

Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub. is important plant for natural medicine. Plant Show three type of seeds i.e. large, medium and small based on dimension. Highest dimension in large pods with large seeds (5.1×3.6×0.8 cm). Seeds are reddish-brown to dark brown. Observe shapes are ovate, round, d-form and reniform (kidney shape).The large seed is mostly in reniform shape while medium and small seeds are showing all above shape. Percentage germination is highest in medium seeds and lowest in small seeds. Light reddish-brown seed showed high viability than dark brown.
