Bio Statement: 
Dr. (Mrs) Pushpa Srivastava, born on 11th October 1940, did her M.Sc. (1962) from Osmania University Hyderabad and received her Ph.D. degree under the guidance of distinguished Phycologist Prof. Jafar Nizam from the same University. She started her academic career as Lecturer in Botany, Osmania University in 1966.Thereafter joined the Department of Botany, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in 1971 and continued there until her retirement in 2001. She engaged herself both teaching and research activities. She worked on eleven research projects sponsored by UGC, CSIR, DST, DNES and DBT and published 151 papers in National and International journals of repute. She also authored a book on “Spirulina Cultivation, Production and Processing using Rural Technology” and edited a book on Atomic Biology and Biotechnology. 27 students including two foreign students (A.M. Kh. Jarausha and Sherie Burke) have received their Ph.D. degree under her supervision. She visited many countries such as Mellbourne (Australia), N. Carollina (USA), Manchester (UK), Thessaloniki (Greece), Montpellier (France), Uganda (Africa) and Japan, Hongkong, Mauritius, Singapore and China in Asia to deliver the talks. She is the life member and Fellow of national and international societies. She has convened for "Women in Science" and "Environmental Sciences” under prestigious Indian Science Congress Association of India. She organised state level workshop on Spirulina as a source of protein for animal and human consumption (1998), and National level training programme on "Spirulina Cultivation, Production and Processing" (2000) and a National level symposium on "A Decade of Algal Research In India, using Biotechnological Methods (2001). She is the winner of Three Gold Medals - YSRK Sarma Memorial Gold Medal (1994) for the contribution in the field of biotechnology, International Woman Scientist Gold Medal Award (2010) and Life Time Achievement Award Medal (2014). She is also the receiver of Galantary Award (2012), Honorary Fellowship Award (2013), Women Recognition Award as Erudite (2014) and Women of the Year 2015. She is the first woman Scientist from Faculty of Science, University of Rajasthan who has been awarded Emeritus Fellowship of UGC. More than any other achievement, she is known for developing a simplified technology for commercial cultivation of Spirulina for generating income for the illiterate and uneducated less privileged component of the society - The ST/SC Women in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Her "Laboratory to Land” technology has successfully been transferred to the rural villages, where woman earn their livelihood by cultivating and marketing spirulina and its products. Thereafter she has introduced Spirulina as “Nutraceutical” in the treatment of hyperglycaemia, hypercholesterolemia, anaemia and arthritis. Presently HIV inhibition and cancer arrest are under experiments.
